Transitioning from Military Life to Everyday Life is Achievable

Transitioning from Military Life to Everyday Life is Achievable

By: Shametra Watts, Senior General Manager, U.S Army

I served in the Army for eight years. Within those eight years, the military taught me many different life skills, but the most important were:

  1. To be independent
  2. To work as a team
  3. To be a leader

By learning these skills and building on them, it helped me to not only succeed in my personal life, but also in my career. Being a part of the military is a life experience that develops you to be successful in many different ways. I learned to step up, go the extra mile, and be persistent.

TMX Project SERV is important to me because it gives veterans, like myself, the ability to put our valuable skills to use every day in our careers. It gives veterans a chance to show that transitioning from military life to civilian life is achievable and our military skills are not only appreciated, but are celebrated as part of our careers.
