District Director of Operations Jesus Cavazos shares how he grew his career as a leader as well as his tips for finding success when starting a career with the TMX Finance® Family of Companies.
“I started with the Company in 2012 as a Store Manager and believe it was the best decision I could have ever made! Within a year, I was promoted to General Manager, and, in a span of seven years, I managed four branches, each branch bigger than the last. Then, I had the privilege of being promoted to District Director of Operations. I have been a District Director for three years and greatly value every moment I have had with this Company. The TMX Finance® Family of Companies has become a second family for me, and I continue to be thankful for all the people that have helped me along the way.
It’s difficult to single out the proudest moment or accomplishment in a 12-year career span, but if I had to pick one, I believe the proudest moment would be seeing those who I have coached and mentored grow and develop in their career. As a leader, my goal is to see my entire team reach their highest potential. I think of people like Arturo Rosas, who started as my Store Manager in 2014 and is now a District Director in the Fort Worth area, or Dora Cruz, who started as an Assistant Store Manager is now a General Manager in Plano. There are dozens of people who I can think of who share similar progression stories and those are the moments I cherish the most.
Team growth and personal growth are such a passionate topic for me because I’ve personally had several people at the Company invest in me and help me get to where I am today. I believe mentorship is a privilege and should not be taken for granted. I appreciate my predecessor, who’s now at our Carrollton corporate office as an executive, because he spent years conversating with me on life advice, offered up best business practices, and always believed in me through thick and thin. In my last year as a General Manger before my promotion, I received great coaching and mentorship by my own supervisor at the time, and he was able to help me close the gap between General Manager and District Director through endless hours of discussion and empowerment. I also think of my current Senior Vice President, Tim Pearson, as a huge mentor; the hours I’ve spent talking to him about strategy, business, and development books and the way he challenged me day in and day out was exceptional! I currently have excellent leaders, and their support has been instrumental in my continued success.
My advice to anyone that wants a career at the TMX Finance® Family of Companies is simple: be yourself. We all possess unique skills and have different life experiences that shape us into who we are.
