Reflecting On Individuals

Reflecting On Individuals

“If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to  favor freedom and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; and it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle. Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will.” —Frederick Douglass

What Black History means to me is reflecting on individuals who have shown examples of Black Excellence through great achievements. One of my favorite quotes comes from Fredrick Douglass, one of the greatest pioneers of black history, “If there is no struggle, there is no progress.”  This quote has helped me to understand that life will always have challenges, but you must go through obstacles to be excellent!

I appreciate his mindset. By showing others you are valuable, you can achieve anything, even when the odds are stacked against you. This is relevant even today and inspires me to find solutions in the face of any obstacles in my life.
